Vrudh Pension Yojana Gujarat (Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme)
The Vrudh Pension Yojana in Gujarat, officially known as the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), is a welfare initiative aimed at providing financial support to senior citizens who are economically vulnerable. This scheme is part of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) and is implemented jointly by the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat. Its primary objective is to offer social security to elderly individuals who belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries aged 60 years and above receive a monthly pension to help meet their basic needs. For those between 60 to 79 years, the monthly pension amount is ₹750, while senior citizens who are 80 years or older receive ₹1,000 per month. This financial assistance is directly credited into their bank or post office accounts or disbursed through money orders in some cases. The contribution includes both Central and State Government funds, with Gujarat contributing ₹500 per beneficiary.
To qualify for the Vrudh Pension Yojana, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria. They must be permanent residents of Gujarat, belong to a household listed in the BPL category (with a score between 0 to 20), and must not have any stable source of income or regular family support. The intention is to aid elderly citizens who are unable to earn a livelihood and have no means of financial sustenance.
Applicants are required to provide several documents during the application process. These include proof of age (such as a birth certificate or school leaving certificate), BPL certificate, address proof, and citizenship documents. The application can be submitted at the Mamlatdar Office, Janseva Kendra, or through the Village Computer Entrepreneur (VCE) in rural areas.
